Caitlin Clark recorded the fourth triple-double of her career, and the Indiana Fever scored 100 points for the fifth straight game in an 112-98 win over the Portland Fire on Friday night at Moda Center.
Clark finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in 34 minutes. She shot 5-of-9 from the field and 14-of-17 from the free throw line. Kelsey Mitchell also scored 26, on 9-of-21 shooting with 4 3-pointers.
Six Indiana players scored at least 13 points, the most in a single game in franchise history. Five players had reached that number five previous times, most recently on July 13, 2025.
Behind 9 points from Clark, including a 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer, Indiana led 27-25 after one. Portland went ahead by 7 midway through the second quarter. The Fever answered with a 24-7 run that included 8 points from Clark and led 56-47 at halftime. Indiana outscored Portland 34-25 in the third quarter, with 11 points apiece from Monique Billings and Mitchell, and carried an 18-point lead into the fourth. Mitchell scored 8 in the final quarter and Makayla Timpson scored 6.
Portland committed 20 turnovers, which Indiana converted into 31 points. The Fever had 15 turnovers and gave up 16 points off them. Indiana shot 52.9% from the field and made 30-of-34 free throws.
Fever coach Stephanie White was asked after the game about the defensive performance.
"I thought we had some moments where we were really good," White said. "Obviously, when we get 31 points off of turnovers, I think that's really good for us. We had some moments where our execution was really good. We're still a work in progress, and the coach is never gonna be happy. I liked some of the adjustments that we were able to make and execute, and now we just got to continue to work towards growing it for 40 minutes of consistency."
Portland shot 52.2% from the field and made 14-of-31 from 3-point range. Bridget Carleton scored 26 on 9-of-14 shooting. Her 7 3-pointers tied her career high, and they matched the franchise single-game record. Carla Leite had 20 points and 12 assists for her fifth double-double of the season, a franchise single-season record. The 12 assists tied Leite's career high and her own franchise single-game record. Karlie Samuelson tied a season high with 13 points.
Aliyah Boston was asked what makes the Fire difficult to play against.
"I think that they just do an overall great job at finding the mismatches pretty early, and I think, honestly, they shoot the ball really well," Boston said. "They have spacers one through five, and I think when you have spacers like that, when you're attacking, you're getting sprays. And they shoot it really well, too. But honestly, I think tonight we forced them into some tough shots, and just like coach said, they're great players, so they're gonna make tough shots, and they're gonna shoot the ball well. They're at home. But for us, we're just making sure that they have less of those made baskets."
Fire coach Alex Sarama spoke to reporters afterward.
"The turnovers were a central theme tonight," Sarama said. "Just looking at the start of the second, it was a seven-point lead we had, and then it was three back-to-back-to-back turnovers we had. Then we saw it again in the second half and it's so frustrating because I don't really feel like there's a stylistic theme to them, it's ridiculous. We've got to do a better job training our individual decision making to reduce those. You get that down to 12 and I think that's a really winnable game for us. It's surprising the fact that we can still score 98 points with 20 turnovers. That rarely happens."
Clark's 26 points and 10 assists made her the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,500 points and 650 assists, in 78 games. Sue Bird had held the record at 116 games. Clark now has 1,524 points and 651 assists. Her fourth triple-double tied Sabrina Ionescu for the third most in league history.
White was asked about the triple-double.
"I didn't even recognize it until we got in the locker room," White said. "I mean, C just, she can do all of those things, and the area that she's continuing to get better in for us now is the defensive rebounding. She's always scoring and finding her open teammates and being able to facilitate. And she actually made a comment to me in one game that the ball used to find her on the defensive end. And I said, 'Well, you got to go find it now,' right? And I thought she did a really good job of that."
Clark and Mitchell each scored 25 or more for the seventh time, the third most by a duo in WNBA history. A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young have done it 10 times across 256 games together. Clark and Mitchell have played 78 games together.
Mitchell's third-quarter 3-pointer at the 8:13 mark moved her past Tina Thompson for the sixth most 3-pointers in WNBA history. She finished with 4 and now has 751. Mitchell has scored 20 or more in 13 straight games, tying Diana Taurasi for the second-longest such streak in league history. Her double-digit scoring streak reached 44 games, tied with Thompson for the 16th longest. Mitchell has also made at least 3 3-pointers in 13 consecutive games, a league-leading streak. Clark's 10-game run in 2024 is the second longest. Mitchell averaged 27.2 points across 10 games in July, a franchise record for a single month. She averaged 25.2 in six games in August 2024.
Aliyah Boston scored 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Her fifth field goal was the 904th of her career, moving her past Katie Douglas for third in franchise history. Douglas made 899.
Timpson scored a career-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting in 19:34. Her previous high was 14, set on July 7, 2025, against the Connecticut Sun.
Timpson was asked about the career high.
"Just me being in my spots, cutting off the ball," Timpson said. "When AB gets doubled, I be wide open. Being able to finish around the rim, doing my 90 cuts, getting rebounds. Doing the little things that I'm supposed to do on the court and just having confidence with it."
The five-game winning streak ties the fourth longest in franchise history, matching a run from July 24 to Aug. 3, 2025. The five straight games of 100 or more points are the longest such streak in WNBA history. Indiana has 13 games of 100 or more this season, the most in a season in league history, and has topped 110 six times. The 112 points are the fourth most in a single game in franchise history. At 19-10, the Fever are nine games over .500 for the first time since 2012.
Boston and Portland's Serah Williams were each assessed a technical foul at the 4:42 mark of the third quarter. Sarah Ashlee Barker did not dress for the Fire because of a left knee injury.
The announced crowd of 19,959 was a sellout and a franchise attendance record. It was Portland's third home crowd above 19,000 this season.
