Cadillac’s First F1 Chassis Honors Mario AndrettiJoe Portlock - Getty Images
The new Cadillac Formula 1 team has honored Mario Andretti by naming its first chassis after the racing legend.
Andretti, who turns 86 on Saturday, has an affiliation with the team as an ambassador, and the team can trace its roots back to Michael Andretti’s attempts to enter Formula 1.
The team morphed from the failed Andretti bid into the TWG Motorsports and General Motors project that was accepted onto the grid for the 2026 season.
On Friday, Cadillac announced that its 2026 Formula 1 car will be called the MAC-26—the Mario Andretti Cadillac 26—as a tribute to the 1978 world champion.
“Racing has been the joy of my life,” said Andretti. “It is the ultimate compliment that the Cadillac Formula 1 Team sees those years as meaningful and worthy of recording with this honor. I cherish the opportunity that it gives me to have a lasting bond with F1 and am genuinely appreciative of everyone who continues to acknowledge my part in racing history.”
Cadillac will make its Formula 1 debut at next weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

“Mario Andretti is a legend of Formula 1,” said Cadillac Team Principal Graeme Lowdon.

“At the start of my own journey with the team, he asked me not to let him down—I hope that he will be proud to see the Cadillac Formula 1 Team car bearing his name finally take to the grid.”
