Didn't you guys hear? According to Stephon Marbury, he became a changed man this offseason, and now he is ready to lead his team.

He also became a changed man in the offseason before this season, because he went through all those trials and tribulations with Larry Brown.

Oh, he also became a new man after that DUI he got here in Phoenix.

He also became a better person after the New Jersey Nets were so bad with him during the seasons he played there.

And don't worry. The year after he came here - when everybody somehow blamed the Suns missing the playoffs for the first time in like 15 years on us losing Clifford Robinson and not on swapping Kidd for Steph - he butted heads with Penny Hardaway, but he apologized for that, so he definitely learned from that mistake.

And if you were wondering, he wants everybody to know that he in fact is not on crack. Some people suggested that after his interviews this summer, but he says that it is racist to say that he's on crack and that it's really just him enjoying life and being himself. If I ever had interviews where I called my wife my "better ho", made a few nonsequiters, then started flailing around like it was the opening scene in "House, M.D." then told the interviewer that I wanted to see the "spit on his lip(???)", I personally would've issued a public statement saying that I was indeed on crack... but he says he's not.

IMO Marbury's 1:1 playground style doesn't fit D'Anotni's vision of the team. It's pretty much that simple.

You are absoluely right if Marbury were here as a 1. As an off-the-ball shooter, I think he would actually THRIVE in this system - a system he has never been used in. He is good as a PG in spots in spite of the fact that he has had a personally successful career as a full-time PG. Put him in the right system and he'd be as good as Iverson....

I hope I can say this without being too rude, but Sunsman44 is truely the worst poster we've ever had here in the Suns forums at the ASFN.

But you still take the chance. We took a chance with Jalen Rose, and it was clear that his game didn't fit.

:waiting for anti-sunsman44 vs. defense team......

Pretty sad that I am considered part of the "Sunsman defense team" when all I want is for half of you to treat each other with some respect. I guarantee that if this were real life, and not a message board, we would be breaking up some fights.

You NEVER emphasize a point, by name calling. It just makes you look silly.

Those were the good old days when stephon physically abused a very young tony parker. Last year, however, parker shot 25-33 and scored 57 pts in their two meetings and steph scored 29 pts(14.5ppg) and dished 6 assists(3apg) in two games against his former patsy. Looks like parker has the upper hand now, the role of abuser and abused has changed.

well that changes things

thanks for the info

I don't think Jalen was going to require the playing time that Steph would though. You have to take into account personalities and egos.

The worst thing that happens, is that you are out 40% of the minimum salary. Risk vs. reward.

Marbury would not break up the chemistry of this team. He isn't Ron Artest.

His history would dictate otherwise. Teams can't wait to get rid of the guy after the honeymoon is over. Even the Suns wanted to right after they signed him to his extension. There is a reason behind it.

It's not really about the money here.

I read in the AZ.Republic this week where Marbury said that he is the best point guard in the NBA.With that attitude i don't know how well he would fit in with Steve Nash, who is IMO far better than Marbury.

This is what I remembered of Steph's defense too. He can be very good if his mind is set on it. He was schooling Parker on both ends of the floor in the year we lost to Spurs in the first round,

Only in the regular season games (not in the play-off) and rather in offense.

I remember that Parker told in 2002 that Marbury is his least-wanted opponent because he is too strong for himr.

As someone wrote earlier, times and roles can change (and I seriously think not only times but Marbury has changed as well) and now Parker would school Marbury in offense.

Marbury's professionalism that he showed in Phoenix is over.

From ESPN:
"Peter Vecsey calls him 'Steph Infection' for a reason: Minnesota (50), New Jersey (52) and Phoenix (60) all won at least 50 games in their first season after Marbury left. The Knicks, meanwhile, have yet to win 40 with Steph."

Nuff Said.

I think it broke down at the start of the 2003-04 season, which is why D'Antoni concluded he had to go.

I'm pretty sure the people who concluded he had to go were JC and BC, not some guy who at that point in his career had accomplished absolutely nothing as a coach. And there's been nothing ever said that points the finger toward's Marbs lack of professionalism breaking down with Phoenix. It was a basketball decision, plain and simple. We were stuck in nowheresville and needed to start from scratch, thus he was moved to clear salary cap room in the biggest FA year in recent memory.

Oh the salary was certain a major if not THE major reason, but the fact that Marbury is absolutely incapable of running the break and a complete coach killer could not have escaped D'Antoni's notice.

George,
but the fact that Marbury is .... and a complete coach killer

Do you really know something about this or is this just a comment you heard someone else make and then exaggerated it? He certainly wasn't killing Frank Johnson - Frank needed no help in doing that himself.

I'd even say that "absolutely incapable of running the break" is hyperbolic.

When all the smoke clears in the Marbury debate... he would still inevitably be just as much of a project for this team as banks straw and tucker are going to be this season and upcoming seasons.
