The Suns have the best one two point guard combo in the league with Nash and LB.

LB is a young Marbury without the ego.

The more I think about it the more I have decided that the Suns really don't need anything. PJ Brown signing in January would be perfect. Let him enjoy the holidays with his family then sign on for one more 6 month stint.

I'm not saying that there aren't great players out there that would be nice additions and maybe even make the Suns better. Its just that none of them are available or the Suns would have to give up too much to get them.

I hope they give this team one more chance and see what happens.

I gotcha arwillan...I was actually about to add to my post and say selfish (in basketball terms) and egotistical would have been how I described him.

Where would Steph ever find time here? Between LB, Bell, and Nash, there simply isn't room, and DA isn't going to sacrafice their minutes for a player who doesn't really even fit.

I would really have no interest in bringing him back. He won me over while he was here, but he is nowhere near the same Steph that played here either. He's mentally fragile.

Didn't he and Amare have friction? We don't need that either.

In a van...down by the river.
People in this forum have a problem against good depth, good defense, and talent. They seem to think the current Suns team is the greatest team on the planet where in fact they couldn't be further from truth - as the playoffs will point out once again!
This isn't far from the truth. However, I don't want to see STarbury in a SUNS uniform again.

Who said Blount would start over Hill? I've got Skinner starting over Hill. Not Blount.

Im sorry, I misread. Fine, why would Skinner start over Hill? On what planet would D'Antoni ever do that?

I don't know.

Understatement of the year. You don't know, you want the Suns to have more size and depth, we all do, but you have a completely unrealistic view of how the NBA works and how difficult it is to get those things.

They seldom play him. Heat have 5 other bigs on that roster including Zo, Shaq, Johnson, and Haslem. Blount never gets time. He was a throw in for the Ricky Davis deal. That's all.

There's a big chance Zo and Shaq are in their final years, and they are both guys who have missed a lot of games, Mark Blounts a great insurance plan for them. And if they retire after this year, he can step into a starting or larger minutes role next year.

Hmm. Last time I checked, Marbury never had chemistry issues in a Phoenix uniform. In fact, he was one fantastic guard here. A mentor for Barbosa too.

Hm, last time I checked, chemistry had nothing to do with the color of your uniform or the city you are in. The Suns on this team are largely different than those Marbury teams. Who knows how Marbury would fit in with classy guys like Hill and Nash. Furthermore, Marbury seems to be getting crazier with age, he's not worth the risk.

Again, people on this forum - with exception to the 10 people on The Sunsman Defense Team - are against good depth, good defense, and better talent. The Sunsman Defense Team folks here know their basketball. Others do not because they think the current Suns club is made by God. We shall see when they fail to make the playoffs...

You honestly think people don't want those things? You're nuts if you truly believe that. We just know those things are coveted by everyone, and tough to get. I don't think this team was divinely created, however they have gone deep in the playoffs and consistently won a whole boat load of games, I can't complain.

By the by, you claim to know a lot about the game, do you play it?

Do me a favor and delete your account. You clearly don't know anything related to professional basketball. Stop posing questions as a supposed wise reply. You just look like a fool doing it. Blount is a more than capable blocker and is seven feet tall.

And the drum beats on. I will be amazed if you ever go a week without trashing the Suns, this community, or one of our posters.

In any event, you won't be able to have another chance until next year.

Any complaints, praises, comments, whatever about Sunsman44's recent banning can be sent directly to my PM Box where I will read them and take them under consideration.

That is where they belong, not on any thread or in your signatures.

Now on to the topic at hand.

I believe that if Marbury is bought out he will be able to select whatever situation he is comfortable with. Thus, it isn't very logical that he would become a locker room cancer.

That being said, it seems unlikely he would select Phoenix to be the backup when he can be a starter in Boston and have an easier path to the finals.

EDIT: Of course Boston could also decide that having a non shooting PG like Rondo better serves them in a lineup with 3 guys who dominate the ball.

This would be his 4th strike? At least 3rd. If this were an california sports board he would be seeing jailtime.

DCR,

That was not at all the tone of your post, as you well know.

In fact, Marbs does fit in some ways with the current Suns, which went unmentioned in your posts. The principal thing is that we have good perimeter shooters now and he's quite good at kicking the ball out when he can't get all the way to the hoop. Second, he needs another playmaker on the floor with him because he's a one trick pony - Penny filled that role when he was fit to play and now we have Diaw and Hill.

Even so I'm far too concerned about his effect on the team chemistry to want to get him at any price. Now if there was some way to find out about his willingness to play hard consistently in a subordinate role, defense included, I might be persuaded. Having to bring him to find out is too risky.

The tone of my post should have been taken as it is not rediculous to consider Marbury in a Suns uniform, considering what he did what he was here. I didn't go through the trouble of arguing the points why I think that he would be a good fit.

My point was that this is not as bad of an idea as you guys are making it out to be.

What would you think of maybe Cleveland? They are in need of a PG. I also think Washington could maybe be a fit, you'd move Arenas over to SG, a position more fitting for him.

Marbury-Arenas-Butler-Jamison-Haywood is not a bad lineup.

he sold cheap shoes right?
is that greedy?

i'm not sure if that's meant to be a joke or not, but reguardless...

the guy is greedy for playing time, we can say that much. that's why he would rather pay a 195k fine than come off the bench.

marbury sells his shoe and clothing line cheap so they can be affordable

his shoes are 15 bucks

I am a huge Stephon Marbury fan. He's always been one of my favorite players.
When he was with the Suns, he was always professional and he always played hard.

I am intrigued with the idea of Nash/Marbury backcourt, but I really don't see what we would do with Bell and Barbosa. Stephon will want 30 minutes per game at the very least. Let's say that Nash only plays 30 minutes. That would leave 18 minutes (each) for Bell and Barbosa.

Another problem is that Stephon does NOT run.

If he was at the end of his career and just wanted a championship and 18 minutes per game, I think it would work. I can see him playing shooting guard along with Nash, or along with Barbosa while Hill and Diaw are handling the ball.

I just don't think it will happen. I would rather see Thomas kicked out of NY. Stephon is a great player. He loves playing in new York and he could help that team rebuild after all the damage they suffered in the last few years.

Cleveland would be almost perfect. He would get loads of minutes and Lebron's game fits his. Washington works too. Like I said, it would be hard to picture him coming here when there are better options for more minutes.

In any event, I wish him well wherever he goes.

Stephon Marbury is a conundrum, a supremely talented basketball player that apparently cannot fit into a team concept, and he's been trying for many years. When he was in phoenix, he had his moments, if he played well, the team could beat almost anyone on any given night. Problem is stef had to be the man for the team to win, if he had a bad game shooting the ball, EVERYONE had a bad game. Stef couldnt seem to get the ball to amare in the post with even decent timing, it ALWAYS arrived after amare lost the necessary position he had established. Post players fight for position and need the ball at precisely the time they establish it, before the defense reacts. I was totally frustrated watching stef dumping the ball into amare AFTER the advantage of establishing position was lost and the scoring opportunity had evaporated. Steve Nash is the best player in the NBA, perhaps ever, at delivering the ball with impeccable timing. The perimeter shooter also needs the ball when he is open, RIGHT now, not 3 seconds later when the defense adapts. Steph could never give up the ball with timing, because I expect he was thinking about shooting first, passing second.

The suns are an unselfish team by any NBA standard, its what makes the system work, hit the guy who is open with the pass, WHEN HE IS OPEN. Stephon never understood this, and is the antithesis of steve Nash as a PG. Steph had good assist numbers, but it seemed like at crunch time, he typically needed to take the shot himself, not dish. So if he had a good night scoring, good things would happen at crunch time, if not, the team would lose.

The suns are so difficult to defend because the opponent never knows who will score 25 or 30 an any given night. It could be Bell, or Marion, or amare or nash or barbs. With steph on the floor the offense will be all to predictable playing right into the hands of the teams with good team defense. When I look at his marvelous skill set, it seems such a shame. He will put up great numbers on mediocre teams, but he will not be able to deliver consistently on very good teams when the oppositon is of high quality. So you say he can be a backup, the self professed " best PG in the NBA", the guy who left KG in minnie because he "wanted to be the man"? If I though he could fit in and move the ball around to the open guy, it'd be great to have all that talent. But when it comes to the ball, he has velcro on his hands, has a great deal of trouble giving it up, and when he does its too late, the defense has already adapted.

If I remember correctly, the one thing Marbury COULD do is play well against the Spurs.

Those were the good old days when stephon physically abused a very young tony parker. Last year, however, parker shot 25-33 and scored 57 pts in their two meetings and steph scored 29 pts(14.5ppg) and dished 6 assists(3apg) in two games against his former patsy. Looks like parker has the upper hand now, the role of abuser and abused has changed.

maybe greedy isn't exactly the correct term. self-centered perhaps is a better fit? like i said, he thinks he's the greatest and it would be demeaning for the best to sign for the minimum. he's an egomaniac. look at that interview with what'shisname, he is certainly insane.

Why would marbury not be called greedy. He wants all the starting minutes he can get when he has proven that he does not deserve them. (chemistry, attitude, ethic on the court and the way he plays)

I also assume the interview is the one about "shiny stuff and how he shoots to win"

IMO Marbury's 1:1 playground style doesn't fit D'Anotni's vision of the team. It's pretty much that simple.
