Overall, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had another tremendous draft. General manager Jason Licht managed to address the team's immediate needs on defense while also planning for the future.
One of Licht's most surprising picks was his first.
The Bucs selected Ohio State wideout Emeka Egbuka at No. 19 overall. That's after the majority of the mock drafts had Tampa Bay focusing on a defensive end or linebacker with that pick.
The selection highlights Licht's willingness to take the best player available on their board rather than drafting specifically for team need.
CBS Sports' Josh Edwards thinks the Egbuka pick is the team's "most questionable."
Buccaneers: WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State (Round 1, pick 19)
"Each of the six players picked were taken in the expected range, so Egbuka is the most questionable because he is the least necessary in the short term," Edwards wrote. "Chris Godwin is returning from injury and Mike Evans is not getting any younger, so it was relatively easy to see their long-term plans with Egbuka. However, last year's draft pick, Jalen McMillan, did some good things for the organization and is now relegated to the fourth wide receiver when all are available.
"Egbuka is a good player but there were bigger needs to address."
Most draft grades from the major media outlets have the Buccaneers ranked high in their post-draft marks.
And Licht doesn't appear done quite yet, as the team has added several undrafted free agents, including Colorado safety Shilo Sanders.
