Rutgers women’s basketball has struck again in the transfer portal. This time, they have successfully brought home another New Jersey talent to represent their home state on the hardwood, as former Bucknell guard and Spring Lake, NJ, native Hope Masonius announced her commitment to the Scarlet Knights on her social media.
Masonius spent the last two seasons at Bucknell, redshirting her freshman year due to injury. During her sophomore year, the 5-foot-9 guard averaged 12.5 minutes in 23 games, seven of which she started. She finished last season averaging 2.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
Masonius spent her high school days playing for Manasquan High School, where she dominated, helping the Warriors win two Group 2 state championships, while tallying 1,131 career points herself.
With all of the Power 4 experienced additions Rutgers has made in the portal so far, Masonius will more than likely be coming off the bench next season. However, the Knights need depth all around, and Masonius can be that depth if her game is developed right.
It has been made clear by Rutgers women’s basketball head coach Gary Redus II that getting New Jersey talent to stay home is one of his top priorities. By bringing back several New Jersey talents that have gone elsewhere, he hopes to have them as examples of what homegrown New Jersey talent can be if they come to Rutgers.
Masonius is the eighth player Rutgers has picked up in the transfer portal so far this year.
