The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a very successful NFL draft this past week. They brought in players who can immediately help their roster like Ohio State wide receiver and first round pick Emeka Egbuka.
In typical Buccaneers fashion, though, their success this offseason does not just relate to their draft success. Tampa Bay has come out with some quality undrafted free agents as well.
One of those is Colorado safety Shilo Sanders.
The defensive back and son of Hall-of-Famer Deion "Primetime" Sanders signed a deal with Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers shortly following the completion of the 2025 draft.
"I’m excited to get him in here and see how he moves. I saw him tackle all year. I saw him make plays," Bowles stated afterward. "He’s a very smart player and he understands the game very well. So we thought it was worth a shot to see what he can do and I think he’ll show himself well.”
Not everyone is impressed, though.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is concerned that Sanders will bring in his own baggage with his Hall-of-Fame father willing to speak out in favor of his sons.
"Any team that gives Shilo a shot needs to be ready for it to be a fair shot, because Deion has the public profile to call out anyone who doesn’t, in Deion’s view, give either Shilo or Shedeur a fair shot," Florio wrote.
Florio's concerns are not invalid. There's a reason Shedeur fell to the fifth round of the draft this year, and his talent was just part of the issue.
Colorado's quarterback was outspoken throughout the pre-draft process of wanting to end up on the right team for him. Reports stated that his meetings with teams he didn't feel were a good fit went very poorly.
Part of that concern for Shedeur also falls to his brother Shilo. If Deion is willing to speak out about the way his sons are used in the NFL, it could be a distraction the Buccaneers may not want to deal with. ...
And put the future of his son's NFL careers even more in jeopardy.
It is a massive debate that involves both Sanders sons. ... and we assume that as with the Browns and Shedeur, the Bucs know exactly what they're getting into with Shilo.
And with his dad.
