Bryson DeChambeau is in danger of missing another cut at a major.

After what seemed like a promising start for DeChambeau in the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills with an even-par 70 on Thursday, things went south Friday as he shot 5-over 75, plagued by a shaky wedge game and an uncooperative putter. As of 1 p.m. ET, DataGolf gives the cut line a 74 percent chance of ending up at 4 over, which would leave DeChambeau on the outside looking in at a major championship for a third straight time.

It was another disappointing day for DeChambeau, especially at a tournament he's won twice before. He got off to a horrid start with back-to-back double bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4, both of which were a result of poor chip shots from in front of the green. He bounced with a birdie at the fifth but immediately gave a shot back at No. 6 thanks to another lackluster chip leading to a two-putt bogey.

From there, he was unable to salvage anything, making the turn in 3-over 38 before carding three more bogeys at Nos. 13, 15 and 17. He had a birdie look from 15 feet on the 18th with a chance to get to 4 over and greatly increase his chances of earning a tee time on the weekend, but the putt grazed the edge of the cup and stayed out.

There's still a chance the cut line moves to 5 over and DeCheambeau does end up making it, but it's slim, and either way, flirting with the cut line at every major tournament is never where a star the caliber of DeCheambeau wants to be. He tripled bogeyed No. 18 on Friday at the Masters to miss the cut by two shots, and then struggled mightily at the PGA Championship last month, shooting 6-over 76 on the first day to put himself out of it.

So, it's likely back to the drawing board for DeChambeau, whose next tee time might not be for another four weeks until the Open Championship on July 16. He already has two wins on LIV Golf this year and is second to only Jon Rahm in the league's season-long standings. But when it's come time to perform on the game's biggest stages, DeChambeau has fallen flat in three straight majors.
