A lot has been made about the culture of the Oregon Ducks. They were known for their high-flying offenses in the 2010s under head coach Chip Kelly and quarterback Marcus Mariota, but there has been a significant shift since then.
Dan Lanning took over four years ago and quickly established an identity for the Ducks as a gritty, defensive team, who can also get it done however they need to on offense. Linebacker Bryce Boettcher is the perfect representation of that culture. A homegrown talent, Boettcher went from a guy who saw the field sparingly in his first two seasons to one of the key contributors on the back half.
He had the best year of his collegiate career in his final season, totaling 136 tackles, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and an interception. While he isn’t extremely high on many teams’ draft boards, he is currently at the senior bowl trying to improve his stock.
Known as a high-intensity player, Boettcher was participating in pregame drills when he blasted an offensive player. While he showed some sportsmanship and tried to help the player up, his teammate was having none of it, getting up and swinging at Boettcher.
There are many adjectives to describe the Oregon product, but dirty isn’t one of them. We know from his four years in Eugene that his motor never stops running, so it feels like he may have just gotten a bit carried away.
Everyone on the field has the exact same goal in mind, so there probably wasn’t any hard feelings after the dust settled.
