There were a lot of changes that the New York Mets made over the offseason, with the old regime being torn apart to bring in a ton of new faces.

Brandon Nimmo's success with the Texas Rangers, combined with Luis Robert Jr. sitting on the injured list, has one outfield spot as a huge regret for this team. But, it's far from the only regret the Mets have from this past offseason exchange.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today highlighted another brutal exchange the Mets made over the winter, the swap of Jorge Polanco at first base for Pete Alonso. This swap has one brutal statistic that shows just how bad things have gone for the Mets.

"First baseman Pete Alonso missed 24 games in his seven years with the Mets," Nightengale writes. "Jorge Polanco, Alonso's replacement, has missed 31 games in his seven weeks with the Mets."

In just seven weeks, Polanco has already missed more games than Alonso did in seven years for the Mets. If this statistic doesn't make Mets fans wish Alonso was back, their on-field production should do it as well.

Mets Jorge Polanco swap over Pete Alonso has aged terribly

Polanco, the 32-year-old veteran, was signed for $40 million over two years to be the new first baseman for the Mets. After their May 16th win over the New York Yankees, they have officially played 45 games.

The $40 million infielder has played in just 14 games for the Mets, missing 31 games, with plenty more games to come.

Polanco might miss more than double the games that Alonso missed in his seven-year Mets career in just the first half of the 2026 season.

That is a brutal outcome for the Mets, especially since Alonso has played in all 46 games this season for the Baltimore Orioles.

And while Polanco posted a .179 average and .532 OPS for the Mets this season across his 56 at-bats, Alonso has a .220 average with a .730 OPS in 173 at-bats.

The vast difference in production and Polanco's injury issue this year should have Mets fans wishing Alonso was back in the fold.

Even though he would've cost a lot more, with his $155 million deal with Baltimore being extremely expensive, it would've been more worth it with Polanco not even seeing the field on a $20 million deal.
