The Cleveland Browns have had a staggering 40 starting quarterbacks since 1999. Unless something crazy happens later in this NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders won't be a candidate to be No. 41.
A day after trading down in the first round and drafting Michigan run-stuffing defensive lineman Mason Graham, the Browns had two early picks in Friday's second round. Both times they again passed over the Colorado quarterback.
With the 33rd overall pick the Browns selected UCLA safety Carson Schwesinger, and then and then three picks later chose Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins.
Though they have the 67th and 94th picks in third round, the Browns - as the rest of the league - seem content to pass on Shedeur. Cleveland's quarterback position is now filled with Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Watson is recovering from an Achilles injury and is potentially out for the entire 2025 season. Pickett is with his third team in four years. And the veteran Flacco signed a one-year contract this offseason and has the inside track to be the team's starter.
The Browns' snub seemed to hit Deion Sanders the hardest.
"Flacco my age," he said to Shedeur at a Thursday night house party in Texas, referring to Cleveland signing the 40-year-old this offseason to compete for their starting job. Deion of course is considerably older at 57.
Adding more insult to Shedeur's slide, the New Orleans Saints selected Louisville's Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick.
Judkins is a rugged runner from the Buckeyes, the strength to teammate TreVeyon Henderson's speed. At 6-foot and 221 pounds, he was the only running back to broad jump 11 feet at the Scouting Combine. He doesn't possess elite speed, but excels at tough third-down yardage. He was a 1,000-yard rusher all three years at Ole Miss and Ohio State and produced 45 touchdowns.
Nick Chubb averaged just 3.3 yards per carry in eight games in 2024 and is still a free agent.
