The Cleveland Browns have further solidified their defense by signing linebacker Quincy Williams to a two-year, 17 million dollar contract. NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported this move and it comes as the team looks to fill a void in their defense.
Cleveland was widely expected to give a contract to a linebacker during this cycle. The front office had been weighing the option of re-signing 2025 standout Devin Bush, but those plans changed quickly once the Chicago Bears entered the picture. Chicago secured Bush with a three-year, $30 million deal, leaving the Browns searching for a high-impact alternative.
Quincy Williams emerged as the obvious successor for several reasons. He previously earned All-Pro honors while playing under current defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg. The organization is betting that Williams can rekindle that elite level of play in a familiar system. This strategy mirrors the success they found with Bush last season.
Interestingly, the financial structure of this deal is virtually identical to the one signed by Alex Anzalone with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier today. By landing a player of Williams' caliber at this price point, Cleveland might be striking gold once again in the bargain bin of the free agency market.
This addition provides veteran leadership and proven production without breaking the bank. Fans should be excited to see if Rutenberg can maximize Williams' talent once more to keep this defense at the top of the league.
