Striking the NFL free agency iron for the second time today, the Cleveland Browns are back on the board. After signing former first round guard Zion Johnson to a three-year deal, the Browns have now turned back to the defensive side of the ball and signed linebacker Quincy Williams to a two-year deal worth $8.5 million per year.
This comes after former Browns linebacker Devin Bush signed with the Chicago Bears for $10 million per year on a three-year deal earlier in free agency. The Browns now have a new WILL linebacker to play next to reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Carson Schwesinger.
Despite a down year a year ago, Williams has familiarity with Browns defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg. In fact, Williams was named to an All-Pro with the New York Jets when Rutenberg was the linebackers coach under then head coach Robert Saleh.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Williams and Rutenberg have a great relationship, so the reunion between the two sides is an easy dot to connect. Let's see what kind of damage Williams and Schwesinger can do under the tuteledge of Rutenberg this season in Cleveland.
