Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year tight end Lucas Krull, No. 85.
Before the Broncos: Krull (6-6, 260 pounds) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2022. Krull appeared in one game, but did not record any catches. He was waived by the Saints following training camp in 2023.
Broncos tenure: After being cut by New Orleans, Krull promptly joined the Denver Broncos' practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in December and appeared in seven games (starting two) on both offense and special teams, drawing 14 targets, totaling eight receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown.
Krull returned to the Broncos in 2024, playing in 13 games (two starts). In those 13 games, Krull led the team in tight end targets (23) and receptions (19), totaling 194 yards. In Denver's lone playoff game, Krull also caught one pass for two yards. Krull had a tough 2025 campaign, first getting demoted to being a healthy scratch and then suffering a broken foot that sidelined him for much of the regular season. He was limited to a pair of catches for 15 yards that fall.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Standing on wobbly ground. Krull, who is only playing on a one-year contract going into 2026, has a precarious roster status, especially following the additions of 2026 draft picks Justin Joly and Dallen Bentley. Even after attending the popular Tight End University this summer, Krull will be a long shot to make the 53-man roster this summer.
