Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie safety Miles Scott, No. 39.
Before the Broncos: Scott (5-11, 190 pounds) was a five-year player for the Illinois Illini from 2021-25. Scott is a converted wide receiver, where he played his first two seasons before switching to the defensive side of the ball. While not productive as a receiver, he thrived on defense, making 182 total tackles (131 solo, 51 assisted), with four tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions, with two of those picks going to the house.
Broncos tenure: Scott was selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round (246th overall) of the 2026 NFL draft in April. He signed a four-year, $4.51 million contract in early May. Scott will make his Denver debut during preseason this summer.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Decent odds as a backup. Scott is in the running to win a backup role behind starters Talanoa Hufanga and Brandon Jones. Scott will face competition from Devon Key, JL Skinner, new arrival Tycen Anderson and undrafted rookie Parker Robertson, but he'll get an opportunity to impress this summer. If he doesn't end up on the active roster as a rookie, Scott should be a top practice squad candidate.
