Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at eighth-year linebacker Alex Singleton, No. 49.

Before the Broncos: Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) first arrived on the NFL stage as an undrafted free agent out of Montana State University in 2015, signing with the Seattle Seahawks. After failing to make Seattle's active roster, Singleton had stints on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings. Singleton then moved north, going to the Canadian Football League, where he played 54 games for the Calgary Stampeders from 2016-2018. With the Stampeders, Singleton had 311 tackles, four sacks, one interception, six forced fumbles and 17 special-teams tackles. A two-time CFL All-Star, Singleton won the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in 2017, and he helped the Stampeders win a Grey Cup championship in 2018.

Singleton returned to the NFL in 2019, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played from 2019-21. In the three seasons he was with the Eagles, Singleton made 262 total tackles (158 solo, 104 assisted, nine tackles for loss), 2.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, five pass deflections and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns.

Broncos tenure: Singleton then signed with the Denver Broncos in free agency ahead of the 2022 season. In his first year with the Broncos, Singleton made an instant impact, posting 163 total tackles (101 solo, 62 assisted, six tackles for loss), three pass deflections and one forced fumble in 2022. According to the Broncos, Singleton became the only NFL player since at least 1994 to have recorded multiple games of 20+ tackles in a single season in 2022.

Singleton had an even better year in 2023, setting a career-high in tackles, with 177 total tackles (106 solo, 71 assisted, six tackles for loss), four pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and 2.0 sacks. In 2023, Singleton recorded the most double-digit tackle games (13) in a single season by any NFL player since at least 1999.

In 2024, Singleton was voted a team captain for the first time in his NFL career, and looked poised to have another big year. However, in Week 3 of the 2024 season, Singleton suffered a tremendous setback when he tore his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Remarkably, Singleton played the rest of the game on the torn ligament. After a successful surgery, Singleton returned to the field in 2025.

Last fall, Singleton once again rebounded to lead the Broncos in tackles (135 total tackles), adding one sack, four pass deflections and one forced fumble, as the Denver defense was one of the best units in the entire NFL. In the middle of the season, Singleton was hit with more devastating news. After undergoing a random drug test, Singleton discovered that he had testicular cancer. In true Singleton toughness, he had the cancer removed and was declared cancer-free, only missing one game after the diagnosis before returning and finishing out the season. This offseason, Singleton signed a two-year contract with the Broncos, a deal worth $15 million.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Essentially a lock. Singleton represents the heart of the Broncos' defense: tough, hard-nosed and a force to be reckoned with. Although Singleton may be a liability in pass coverage, there is no denying his ability to fly around the field and make plays when he needs to. Singleton may be able to train a player like Red Murdock or Taurean York to be the quarterback of the defense in the future, but for now, Singleton will wear the green dot as the communicator and leader of one of the most feared units in football.
