Broncos Country, buckle in. Quarterback Bo Nix is (almost) back.
After the Denver Broncos wrapped up their second week of organized team activities OTAs on Thursday, coach Sean Payton revealed that Nix (ankle) advanced to doing walk-through and two-minute reps at practice this week after doing some pre-practice throwing last week.
“Bo got some earlier walkthrough stuff today," Payton said. "I think you’ll see him next week. I’ve said that before.”
After Payton reiterated that Nix is on track to participate in mandatory minicamp next week (June 16-18), the coach was asked about Nix’s past ankle injuries and if the latest injury might hurt the QB’s mobility going forward.
“He’s going to be completely clean mobility-wise,” Payton said. “I understand the question. He’s out here, today, like going through two-minute reps, walkthrough reps. There won’t be [a lack of mobility]. He’s young, and one of his great assets is his ability to avoid sacks and escape from the pocket. I don’t think you’ll see that hindered at all. I think Year 3, personnel carry over, a lot of those things will continue to help him. We love how he’s played in the first two years.”
While Nix is sidelined, Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger are getting more reps at practice.
“I think he’s benefited those two guys a lot, both ‘Stiddy’ and Sam,” Payton said.
With mandatory minicamp on deck next week, all eyes will be on Nix and his level of participation.
