After placing Ben Powers on injured reserve with a biceps injury, the Denver Broncos turned to Matt Peart as a fill-in left guard against the New York Jets in London last week.

Peart struggled in his first start of 2025, committing three penalties. In hindsight, fans will probably be more forgiving of those penalties now.

Denver placed Peart on injured reserve on Tuesday after the lineman suffered a knee injury against the Jets. Peart suffered the injury on the third play of the game and went on to play every snap on offense, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. It was not until after the Broncos returned from London that tests revealed Peart's significant knee injury.

Broncos RT Mike McGlinchey said LG Matt Peart tore his MCL on the third play of Sunday’s game. Still played every offensive snap.

“He fought through it for us. The character of him to do that for us and our football team to get a win, how gritty that is. It’s impressive.”

Denver re-signed Peart to a two-year, $7 million contract during free agency this spring, which is a notable contract for a backup. The Broncos clearly viewed Peart as one of their top backup linemen. He has now joined Powers on IR, and it's unclear if he'll be able to play again this season.
