Broncos have a huge Bo Nix question to answer at minicamp this summer originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Denver Broncos got incredibly unlucky during last year's playoffs, as Bo Nix suffered a season-ending ankle fracture against the Buffalo Bills, and the Broncos won and went on to the AFC Championship.

Nix's health will be a big topic of conversation for the Broncos as the 2026 regular season approaches. But, for now, during the offseason, mandatory minicamp is upon the Broncos.

As ESPN's Jeff Legwold notes, the Broncos will have a huge question with Nix during mandatory minicamp, as seeing how the franchise quarterback looks coming off this ankle injury is going to be very important.

Broncos have big Bo Nix question on ankle injury at minicamp

"How does QB Bo Nix look? By all accounts, especially coach Sean Payton's, Nix has progressed on schedule from a second surgical procedure," Legwold writes." This one was in April, on the right ankle, Nix fractured in the closing minutes of the playoff win against the Buffalo Bills."

While the injury might've happened a while ago at this point, his surgery back in April was only two months ago. Seeing how he's faring after that surgery will be key.

Nix has been working out, throwing the ball, but as Legwold notes, "This week's minicamp is expected to be Nix's first in full-view work in team drills of the offseason."

There will be a lot of attention on how Nix looks, and not due to any job security questions, but rather if he is recovering well from his offseason ankle surgery.

He had a very productive 2025 season and might've led the Broncos to the Super Bowl if it weren't for his incredibly unfortunate injury.

But now, it's a new season, and he needs to get back on track coming off a season-ending injury. He will also be throwing to Jaylen Waddle now, and building a connection before the season will be key for the Denver offense.

How Nix fares during minicamp will be a huge indicator of where the team stands. If he's still injured, there will be a lot of concern.

But if he looks good, then it's full-steam ahead for this Broncos team as they gear up for a Super Bowl run this year.
