Denver Broncos defensive lineman Matt Henningsen was carted off the practice field with an apparent injury on Friday.

Reporters on site tweeted that Henningsen was visibly emotional with his head in his hands. If it's a serious injury for Henningsen, it would be an absolutely devastating blow nearly one year after he ruptured his Achilles last summer.

Henningsen ruptured his Achilles during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 8, 2025. Almost one year later, he was carted off the field on Aug. 7, 2026.

After recovering from last year's injury, Henningsen was competing for a rotational role on Denver's defensive line this summer. Henningsen was competing with the likes of Eyioma Uwazurike, Sai'vion Jones, Tyler Onyedim, Jordan Jackson, Jordan Miller and Kristian Williams for a spot behind Zach Allen, D.J. Jones and Malcolm Roach.

Broncos coach Sean Payton left Friday's practice early to travel to Canton, Ohio, for Drew Brees' enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So with Payton not scheduled to speak to media members until Monday, it might be a few days before we get an official update on Henningsen's status.
