Madden NFL 27 is set to be released next month, and in a surprising twist, Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain was once again snubbed for the vaunted "99 Club." The perfect 99 overall rating is only given to the best of the best in the video game each year.
The cornerback, widely considered the best pass-defender in the NFL, also failed to crack the top ranks last year. In 2025, Surtain was rated 97 overall, and Surtain was less than pleased with being rated anything less than a 99. Although he is the gold standard of cornerbacks, Surtain did miss several games during the 2025 season due to a pectoral injury, which could have contributed to his not joining the club.
The 2026 99 Club included just one defensive player, Los Angeles Rams' defensive tackle Myles Garrett. Five other offensive players joined Garrett, including Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Colorado native and Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.

Surtain may not have a perfect rating in the popular video game, but he is ready to continue being one of the most visible and vocal leaders of the Broncos defense going into 2026.
