No, the Denver Broncos are not moving second-year cornerback Jahdae Barron to safety. Broncos coach Sean Payton made that very clear after Monday's practice.
“He’s doing good," Payton said when asked about Barron earlier this week. "I read somewhere where we moved him to safety, and I don’t know who wrote the article. I’m not. He’s playing nickel, he’s playing corner and then when we get into dime, he replaces a linebacker. So he’s doing really good. There’s been no position change.”
Riley Moss continues to play across from Pat Surtain as the team's No. 2 outside cornerback, and Ja'Quan McMillian has been playing in the slot. Barron can rotate in with McMillian as the nickelback, and he gets on the field in "dime" packages when Denver plays with six defensive backs.
"No safety work," Payton said. "He’s playing [outside] corner, nickel and dime."
PS2 is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and Moss and McMillian are both seemingly playing too well to be benched. So Barron might be looking at another season as a rotational defensive back in Denver.
