The Denver Broncos have made a major change to their wide receiver.
The Broncos agreed to trade draft picks to the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday in exchange for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. That move gives another weapon to quarterback Bo Nix, but it also creates some uncertainty about the state of the team's wide receiver rotation.
Courtland Sutton is obviously safe as the WR1, and Waddle immediately slots in as the new WR2. After them, Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims could all be competing for the third and fourth spots. It's hard to imagine coach Sean Payton being able to consistently feed five receivers, especially with tight end Evan Engram also involved.
So, one of these receivers could end up being the odd man out. Unless Denver opts to trade somebody away, the Broncos will be set to have a fierce wide receiver battle this summer.
Denver's set to begin its offseason program in early May, but players won't take the field for early practices until June. The competition will start to heat up in earnest when training camp begins in July. We'll see if any other changes to the wide receiver room are in store later this offseason.
