The Seattle Seahawks lost Kenneth Walker III to NFL free agency. The Super Bowl 60 MVP signed a three-year, $43 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Walker's departure has left the Seahawks with a glaring hole at running back.
Zach Charbonnet is the only starting-caliber running back on the roster. The problem? Charbonnet suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury during the playoffs. His status for the 2026 season remains unclear.
The Seahawks need to acquire a running back, maybe even multiple ball-carriers, this offseason. The 2026 NFL draft should provide John Schneider with a good opportunity to land a long-term replacement. There are still options in free agency, too.
The best option may be San Francisco 49ers running back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson was Christian McCaffrey's backup in 2025. He rushed for 400 yards and two touchdowns, tying his previous career-high average of 4.2 yards per carry.
Robinson, a third-round pick in 2022, rushed for 797 yards as a rookie. The former Alabama standout rushed for another 733 yards as a sophomore in 2023. In 2024, Robinson gained a career-high 799 yards and scored a personal-best eight touchdowns. He's been extremely consistent throughout his career.
Robinson isn't an elite three-down back, but he's a capable contributor, especially if Charbonnet misses the early portion of the season. Pairing Robinson with Charbonnet and a rookie could help the Seahawks survive Walker's departure. Furthermore, his new offensive coordinator is Brian Fleury, who coached him in San Francisco last season.
Schneider should sign Robinson in free agency.
