Ok to all the medical geniuses here I'll just tell you how it is

Gambling a disease? I've never heard of anyone dying because of gambling. Alcoholism yes a disease but for people with no self control. Excuse me while I get addicted to heroin so everyone can throw a pity party for me
Ignorant take. Read the thread.

Of course. Everyone needs to quit whining. You don't get a random call from a doctor saying you're addicted to gambling.
As the board's resident expert on addictions, you are not only wrong, but a threat to stigmatize those who suffer from it. I hope none are reading now. Please do better.

I had a vascular bypass they told me to quit smoking so I did. That's just the way it is. Whatever name for it might make it sound better but truthfully if you have to quit then you have to.

Do I have a disease being hooked on cigarettes?

yes.
in some ways the inability to comprehend may also be a disease... but we can discuss that later.

to point...
its about chemistry... not just substances you put in your body... but behaviors, cause your natural systems to produce various chemicals... hormones, enzymes, endorphins, etc....
so you get a feeling...an experience...and alteration... not just from the nicotine you enhale when hitting a smoke... but from the actual act of raising the cig to your lips...the drawing in of the smoke.... the burning sensation in the back of your throat...the feeling of your lungs filling with heated smoke...
every single part of the process alters your body chemistry. Different people get addicted to various parts of the experience. Its not just the nicotine.
Myself, I have an acute oral fixation... my girlfriends loved it back in the day....
but truth is, I quit smoking nearly twenty years ago.... but I chew gum constantly...I go through about 2 boxes a week...
not the box on the shelf at the store for $1.50... but the box that has six of those,,, basically I got me a $50 a week chewing gum habit.
...and in the end Im still stuck on nicotine...I dont smoke any longer... but I use nicotine pouches daily...
the physiological effects of spontaneous cessation (going cold turkey)...actually gives me a fever, causes delirium, cold sweats. tremors, nausea, headache,...generally feeling like crap...
if you do not suffer these types of withdrawals kudos to you brother...you were fortunate...I also have some things I can use without fear of addiction... nicotine just wasnt one of them.
basic truth is...addiction is real. It is not only mental, but has a serious physical affect as well as emotional components.
The hardest part about dealing with them is the simple fact that they treat every single human differently...
I used to do mass quantities of a powder called cocaine back in the eighties...MASS quantities.
It is highly addictive and has destroyed thousands of lives.

I got a job, ...they didnt allow you to be on cocaine while you worked.....and for me it was just, "what?? I cant do coke no more?? Aw damn, that suxx ass!"
...and you know I gave away the last gram I had...and I have only ever done a single little bump since then. No big deal... inconvenient. so what.
Made it really easy for me to be judgmental against others regarding addictions....wasnt until years later when I found myself at the mercy of a chemical...that I finally started respecting what it really means.

and in soooooo many cases,..the psychological addiction is exponentially stronger than the physical addiction.

You don't understand the diseases of mental illness. Many don't. Let me describe depression to you using this example as it might help. Imagine sitting in your chair with a glass of water next to you. You feel thirsty but cannot reach over to pick up the glass. A few hours later, you're feeling dehydrated, yet you still cannot pick up the glass. A few hours after that, you're severely dehydrated with a splitting headache, and yet you still cannot pick up the glass.

You can apply the same logic to addictions. I've seen alcoholics with severe pancreatitis that could literally die from one more drink relapsing continually. How about the guy rooting around in the change drawer of his car to go back into the casino while missing his daughter's birthday? Same logic. It is not a disease of choice. It IS a disease. You are wrong and your beliefs stigmatize people who do have the disease.

Most state governments love gambling addicts. Lotteries have way worse odds than casinos and obviously more easily accessible.

It didn't seem like a big issue back in the 80s or early 90s in Virginia when the lottery first started. Scratch tickets were mainly a $1 and the top prize winnings were rather modest. It was more a novelty and just a fun activity. That didn't last long though. Now $20,$40, and even $50 scratch tickets exist. I imagine many of us have witnessed people in local gas stations throwing away their latest paycheck feverishly scratching away on a stack of tickets.

Gambling addiction via Sports betting is becoming an epidemic on many college campuses sadly. Situations like Sorsby will become more common.

No, I don't do romance novels. It's just your descriptions were so eloquent, almost poetic that I thought you should be a writer...;)

Just say no … QBs need good judgement and as little baggage as possible.

I didn't see a full thread about this, feel free to delete this if there is.

It seems like Sorsby is going to have to enter the Supplemental Draft at this point, barring a lot of things going his way. Yes, we drafted Beck, but we have a holdout going on with Brissett, and will likely end up back in the early QB market next year anyways.

There's a lot of risk with suspensions and gambling, but we have a need, and could maybe get a discount on a premier player. Although, drafting two QBs in one offseason could limit our choices in the 2027 Draft.

Thoughts?

my question:

if Sorsby is such a highly rated QB - Why didnt he come out this last year?

dont tell me NIL. This was a QB light draft and he had an opportunity to be the 2nd QB drafted. First round money kills Texas Tech NIL money.

Why not ask the same of Dante Moore from Oregon? Realistically, he would have gone to the Jets at #2, or us at #3, unless he fell apart in the pre-draft process. NIL is a significant qualifier.

Sorsby's transfer was worth $5 million. Literally a record deal, the highest payout in what's a short NIL history.
