Northwestern sophomore guard K.J. Windham will enter the transfer portal after spending the past two years with the Wildcats, per League Ready’s Sam Kayser.

NEWS: Northwestern sophomore KJ Windham is entering the transfer portal, his agents at CAA Sports told @LeagueRDY.

The 6-foot-3 guard out of Indianapolis, Indiana has played the last two seasons at Northwestern.

Windham averaged 3.5 points per game in 14 appearances during 2025-26. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 5.9 points per game in 2024-25 but saw a drastically diminished role during his sophomore season, accumulating just 11 minutes played after the new year.

During his first-year season, Windham stepped up for an injury-laden Wildcat squad, scoring in double figures seven times and putting up 20 points twice in the team’s final nine games.

Windham is the second Wildcat who reportedly intends to enter the transfer portal, joining first-year big man Cade Bennerman. Previously, Windham indicated that he planned to return to the Wildcats following NU’s third-round Big Ten Tournament loss to Purdue.

The departure of Windham is a blow to Northwestern’s guard depth entering 2026-27, but it may not come as a surprise to many Wildcat fans.

Windham originally enrolled at Northwestern as a 3-star recruit without any other Power Four offers, but his first-year breakout provided evidence that he might play a key role for the Wildcats in the future. However, Northwestern coach Chris Collins’ additions of USF transfer Jayden Reid, Holy Cross transfer Max Green and first-year Jake West ended up limiting Windham’s opportunity for consistent minutes, and his impact dropped precipitously as a result.

With Windham expected to leave Evanston, the ‘Cats will now have at least two scholarships open to potential transfers in 2026-27.
