Around Major League Baseball, there really haven't been many better teams than the Atlanta Braves when we look at the entirety of the year.
The Braves currently have the third-best record in the National League and are 3.5 games ahead of the first-place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. Atlanta, however, hasn't really been great over the past month, at least by its standards.
It remains uncertain what the Braves will do, as this isn't typically a team that's very aggressive in landing really good players at the trade deadline. The Braves have made the right moves from time to time, but I wouldn't say they've been perfect.
According to the Braves' decision-makers, it doesn't sound like they're willing to take what they currently have into the second half.
So much so that the Braves' general manager recently said they understand they're not a complete team and need to get better.
“We’re definitely not a complete team,” said Alex Anthopoulos, per MLB Trade Rumors. “I think we’ve got the upside to be a complete team, but we can add rotation, bullpen, bats. As much as we all like to say ‘I need to get this’ or ‘I need to get that,’ … sometimes you just need to take what ends up being available to you.”
That isn't a bad thing for the Braves, and it's something I don't think should be viewed as concerning.
If anything, this is a really positive comment from Anthopoulos, as it shows the Braves are willing to do whatever it takes to win games at the highest level. As long as they make the right decisions at this year's deadline, I think they have a real opportunity to win it all.
