The Atlanta Braves came into the 2026 season with a lot of their pitching staff on the injured list or out for some time to begin the year.

Unfortunately, Spencer Strider sustained another injury recently, and now he is going to miss some time again. But the question is how long he'll be out.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman shared a big update on Strider, which revealed that the Braves starter, following an MRI, seems to have avoided the worst-case-scenario of needing surgery.

"Strider's MRI didn't show any ligament damage, just inflammation," Bowman reports. "There aren't any current concerns about him needing surgery."

This is a sigh of relief for the Braves, as while the full extent of Strider's injury and potential absence isn't known, surgery does seem to be off the table for now.

While the 46-35 Braves have been getting great production from their pitching staff outside of Strider, who has a 5.31 ERA this season in eight starts, his loss is still going to sting.

Strider's right elbow is going to force him to miss some time this season, with the expected duration of his injured-list stint still not fully known yet.

Bowman is reporting that Strider will have a visit with the doctor who performed his surgery in 2024 to get a determination of "what the next steps will be."

While the Braves will be without Strider for some time this season, surgery appears to have been avoided, which, all things considered, is some good news for the Braves in what's looking like a legitimately promising World Series-caliber season.
