Rory McIlroy has played a really light schedule on the PGA Tour so far in 2026.
However, unlike 2025, McIlroy will be playing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week.
The 37-year-old won The Masters back in April – the sixth major title of his career – but he has played just six PGA Tour events since then.
Worryingly for Rory McIlroy, he has recorded just two top-10 finishes during those starts.

After The Open finished last month, McIlroy admitted to lacking motivation, but he’ll be hoping to find a spark this week in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
However, it’s fair to say that he may well be undercooked after a serious lack of practice and preparation heading into the event.
Brad Faxon reveals what Rory McIlroy told him ahead of the FedEx St. Jude
Brad Faxon has been speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast ahead of the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week.
The American, who helps McIlroy out with his putting, was asked about the Northern Irishman’s hopes of challenging this week in Memphis.
“I told you before we went on the show, he stopped by to pick up some stuff,“ Faxon replied.
“I bought Rory and his team some nice shirts from the Newport Country Club, some nice golf shirts, because it’s got a great logo. It’s one of our oldest clubs.

“And he kind of likes that stuff, but I just stopped by, gave him some good coffee.
“So he’s going up there to play (Memphis).
“And until a couple days ago, he said he hadn’t hit a shot since he tapped in an 11-inch putt for bogey on the final hole at Birkdale.
“He hadn’t hit a shot again until just, you know, a few days ago.
“I thought that was funny.“
Rory McIlroy clearly has a real motivation problem
It’s hard to see how McIlroy will be able to compete in Memphis this week.
Sure, he is one of the most talented golfers on the planet, but to turn up to TPC Southwind without having hit a ball for three weeks doesn’t seem like the best move.
Rory McIlroy obviously has the prerogative to do whatever he wants. He has earned that right through his exceptional performances over the years.
However, the 37-year-old does need to sit down and think about what he actually wants to achieve in the game.
Because playing a lighter schedule clearly hasn’t done him any favors during the second half of the season, on the golf course at least.
McIlroy will be hoping to find some kind of rhythm at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week and then kick on from there in the final two playoff events of the season.
