Rory McIlroy will return to Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the PGA Tour announced Aug. 7.
McIlroy, No. 2 in the current World Golf Ranking behind Scottie Scheffler, will be back at TPC Southwind after skipping the event in 2025.
The back-to-back Masters champion joins Scheffler (the 2024 Masters winner), Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland and Chris Gotterup as confirmed commitments for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which is set to be played Aug. 13-16.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first leg of the FedExCup playoffs. The top 70 golfers in the standings make it to Memphis, while the top 50 advance to the next week and the top 30 make it to the Tour Championship.
Outside of 2025, McIlroy — the only three-time FedEx Cup champion — has been a mainstay in Memphis. But his play has been up and down at TPC Southwind in recent years. He finished tied for 68th in 2024 but was tied for third in 2023. He missed the cut in 2022.
Justin Rose won the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2025.
The PGA Tour confirmed to The Commercial Appeal on Aug. 5, that Memphis' annual golf tournament was not being considered for a spot on its Championship Series, which begins in 2028. The tour said discussions about future tournaments in Memphis being part of the Challenger Series were ongoing.
