The Boston Celtics are not leaving this free agency cycle without acquiring a true starting center. Several reports have linked them to Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren.

Duren is currently in a restricted free agency standoff as the 13th overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft looks to cash in big time on his second contract.

A report emerged Monday night that says that Duren and Detroit are very far apart in their negotiations, and he is expected to engage in conversations with other teams on Tuesday when free agency begins.

"Due to sizable distance apart in negotiations, Detroit Pistons restricted free agent center Jalen Duren will meet with the Sacramento Kings at the start of free agency with the intentions of structuring a sign-&-trade out of Detroit," Chris Haynes reported on X.

Duren will immediately become the top center available.

I have much disdain for the media's shopping of Finals MVP Jaylen Brown. And I would hate just as much for him to be the piece that gets this deal done, but Jake Fischer reported on The Stein Line that Duren could be the "backstop" for Brown trade talks.

"There's also a potential backstop emerging for Boston's Jaylen Brown trade discussions," Fischer reported. "Detroit is very much weighing the prospect of signing-and-trading restricted free agent Jalen Duren for Brown, sources say, among other conceptual outcomes, if that option remains available for the Pistons once free agency opens on Tuesday evening."

Duren's sweepstakes will heat up fast, and Boston would make a lot of sense as a team in the mix.
