SAN MARCOS, Texas (KLFY) — The Texas State Bobcats baseball used a power surge at the plate to defeat No. 25-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball, 16-6, on Sunday at Bobcat Ballpark, completing a three-game Sun Belt Conference sweep.

Texas State (15-8, 3-3 SBC) tallied 16 hits and blasted eight home runs, marking its first conference series sweep over Louisiana (16-8, 2-4 SBC) since 2022.

The Bobcats struck first in the second inning when Ethan Farris led off with a solo home run. Jackson Cotton followed later in the frame with a two-run shot to give Texas State a 3-0 lead.

Texas State broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs on three consecutive home runs. Farris delivered a three-run homer, Clayton Namken added a solo shot and Chase Mora followed with another home run to extend the lead to 8-0.

The Bobcats continued their offensive surge in the fourth inning. Manny Salas drove in a run with a double before Dawson Park connected on a two-run homer, pushing the advantage to 11-1.

Louisiana got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Drew Markle. The Ragin’ Cajuns added two more runs in the fifth inning with RBI singles from Josh Lim and Colt Brown to cut the deficit to 11-3.

Texas State responded in the bottom half of the fifth inning as Salas launched a three-run home run and Park added a solo shot, stretching the lead to 15-3.

Louisiana scored three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run pinch-hit home run from Steven Spalitta and an RBI single from Jayce LaCava, his first hit with the program.

Salas led Texas State offensively with four hits and four RBI, while Park and Farris each drove in four runs.

On the mound, Jesus Tovar (5-1) earned the win after pitching five innings, allowing five hits and striking out three. JR Tollett (4-1) took the loss for Louisiana after surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits over three innings.

Louisiana finished with eight hits in the game, with Brown recording two hits and an RBI. Noah Lewis added a double and scored a run, while Hayden Pearson tossed a scoreless inning in relief and Cowan Alfonso struck out two in two-thirds of an inning.
