So I've got a Kickstarter fulfillment that is changing up their model. They are actually shipping all the US games to Canada, where they will sit until the tariffs relax. When they do, then they will ship from Canada, which is cheaper and easier logistically.

Most of the ones I have are still being manufactured but won't be shipped over to the US until the Tariff situation is resolved. Until then they will just sit in a Chinese warehouse.
That's going to be the model not just for board games, but for a lot of goods. It will make us poorer and Canada richer in the process.

Catan was my gateway game. Not sure I'll ever play it again because I've gotten into so many other games that are better.
Catan and Ticket to Ride are mine. I would still absolutely play Catan again but I do agree that there are better games.

I've actually never played Ticket to Ride. Catan was my gateway game, but when I was a kid I used to play a National Geographic game called Global Pursuit and of course, Axis & Allies, which I loved. But it was never an obsession like game are for me now.

Just played Barrage last night and I lost miserably. Not a huge fan of that game. LOL

One of these days I'll make it to Essen. I should probably start with Gen Con though.

Anyone ever played Lords of Vegas?
I have it, but never played. That's an old school game (well, old school for this industry at least).

Dice games are hit and miss because there is a lot of randomness in it, which isn't everyone's favorite thing. Also has a lot of luck and some people don't like that lack of control over what they are doing.

Saw that it was kind of hard to find. Any suggestions for games similar to Monopoly or Catan? Our group (of 4) is getting burnt out on monopoly and Rumikub lol

First of all, never play Monopoly again! :).

If you guys are a Monopoly group, then try Machi Koro. Although I wouldn't recommend that type of game. There are a few card games I would suggest though:

Duck & Cover
3 Chapters
Fliptoons
Flip 7
Dead Man's Draw

All are super fun. A group of 4 is a good sweet spot, there are a lot of games out there that are fantastic at that player count. I would look at 7 Wonders, Draft & Write Records, any of the Legendary Encounters games, Horrified and Horrified Dungeons & Dragons, Starship Captains... MOst of those are medium to light games. I play a lot of heavier ones too, but your group has to be open to it and you need at least one person to be able to confidently teach it.

It really all depends on how heavy you are willing to go with the games, there are so many, and there are so many good ones.

What a coincidence. I literally just played this last night.

Lords of Vegas just came out with a reprinting as well. It isn't worth the new reprint price tag, but it is definitely worth the $10 price I paid for it used.

The Duck and Cover and 7 Wonders are good games for people getting into the hobby. Flip 7 should be in everyone's collection IMO.

I wouldn't recommend Machi Koro, and I own the deluxe edition. I think there are many games that just flat out do it better. Space Base is a clear winner over Machi Koro.

I'll have to do some research on those! Thank you for the suggestions! We alternate between phase 10, Rumikub, taboo, Catan, and monopoly, so just trying to expand our horizons. 7 wonders looks like a good one, sounds similar to Catan.

I wouldn't call it similar to Catan at all. 7 Wonders kinda created its own category of game with the way that it plays. (Play a card, pass the rest) It plays quick and it an easy rules teach. There's quite a bit of strategy in it too.

Says it's about 30 minutes of play time?

This was a good podcast, I thought. But I am not a board game expert like you guys.

I just got the deluxe version of Puerto Rico. Such a pretty game and an all time classic.
