Jan. 23—JAMESTOWN — Jamestown High School head girls basketball coach, Andy Skunberg, didn't need to see the stat book to know that his team played well on Friday night.

"We had a lot of confidence after our last game and we are trying to build momentum a little bit because we have a tough week next week," Skunberg said. "It was a good team effort tonight."

Jamestown captured win No. 2 of the week and third conference victory of the season on Friday night. The Blue Jays dispatched Dickinson 74-44 to move to 3-5 in the West Region and and 5-6 overall. Jamestown's next action is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bismarck Century.

The Blue Jays led from the word "go" on Friday, skipping out to an early 13-0 lead. As time continued to tick off the clock, the Jays kept putting points on the board. With 5:57 left in the first half, the Jays led 26-12 but the 14 point lead wasn't enough apparently.

Senior Mea Ulland hit her second 3-pointer of the half to make it a 17-point game.

Jenna Nelson broke the Mavericks' scoring drought with a put-back followed by a layup on the next possession but a 13 point deficit and a humming Blue Jay offense was bad news for Dickinson.

Macey Neumiller completed a 3-point play while Adisyn Yunck finished off the first-half scoring with a layup that made it 36-18.

The points kept flowing in the second half. Jamestown started the second half on a 7-0 run before Nelson nailed a 3-pointer to make it 43-21 Blue Jays with just over 15 minutes to play.

Jamestown kept building on the lead and caused the running clock to start when McKinley Johnson went 1-of-2 at the line to make it 74-44.

"We got a lot of what we call, score-stop-scores," Skunberg said. "We got a score, then we came down and got a stop on defense, then we got another quick score. We just try to work on those and that slowly builds leads."

On the defense, Skunberg said he was proud of his team for limiting the Mavericks to just one shot to start the first half. The head coach commended his team's effort for getting the rebound and getting scores in transitions and pushing the scores

Neumiller and Milan Martin led the Jays' scoring efforts both with 18 points. Ulland contributed nine points — all from beyond the arc while Claire Marker scored eight and nabbed six rebounds. Lucy Falk and Adisyn Yunck each contributed seven points, three rebounds and one steal to the Jays' totals. Hannah Attleson did not account for any of the Blue Jays' points but she did nab 11 boards.

Dickinson was led by Ali Stevenson and Abby Praus both of whom accounted for 11 points.

"Hopefully the wins this week help the girl play with confidence (next week)," Skunberg said. "We've just got to be ready to go."
