The Ada High School baseball team couldn’t get the offense going against Blanchard hurler Jaxson Heard in a 5-0 loss to the Lions Monday night at Cougar Field.
Coach Shane Coker’s club fell to 21-6 overall and 10-3 in District 4A-1 play, while Blanchard saw its winning streak extend to 19 games and improved to 27-1 and 14-0.
In another 4A-1 matchup Monday night, the Byng Pirates handled Harrah 11-1 at Stokes Field. Byng is now 19-4 overall and 10-3 in the district, while the Panthers sank to 15-14 and 9-4.
Ada and Byng will face the same district opponents tonight in a pair of road games.
Blanchard 5, Ada 0
Both starting pitchers turned in strong performances.
BHS hurler Jaxson Heard struck out seven, walked one and scattered four hits in a complete-game shutout. Brock Boyles tossed the ball well for Ada. He struck out a season-high nine batters, walked one and allowed three earned runs in 6.2 innings.
Ada’s four hits — all singles — came from JD Dugan, Will Johnson, Boyles and Kyler Gaddis.
Heard helped his own cause by leading a nine-hit Blanchard offense. He finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Braxton Milligan added a pair of hits and Kobe Madron hit a solo home run.
Byng 11, Harrah 1
Brody Airington scored on a nice sacrifice bunt by Ezekiel Griffin with one out in the bottom of the sixth that capped a six-run BHS outburst and gave Byng the walk-off victory.
The Pirates led 5-0 after four innings.
Byng finished with seven total hits, led by Preston Welch who finished 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Lane Alexander hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third inning that put the home team ahead 4-0. He finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Airington finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored. He was also hit by a pitch. Ryan Shelton also had a hit and scored a run for the Pirates.
Heath Whitemore finished 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI and Ryan Owens hit a double for the Panthers.
Preston Welch picked up the mound win for the Pirates. He struck out nine, pitched around six walks and allowed one earned run in five innings. It was his fifth win of the spring.
