The Athletic has no chill

Cardinals: Jonathan Gannon has failed to replicate the defensive success he had in Philadelphia, fielding a below-average unit in each of his three seasons in Arizona. After yesterday's loss to the Rams, his 15-35 record is the worst among all active coaches.

So if Bidwill keeps Gannon, how does his announcement to his fans read?
We have decided to retain Jonathon Gannon due to…?
Or does he not even release anything after the embarrassing season endured by fans?
I mean at least Cindy after a 6-11 season even explained keeping Zac Taylor and explaining to their fans that he has taken them to a SB and an AFC championship.
What could Bidwill possibly say about Gannon?
Keeping quiet is even worse indicating that he doesn’t care about the fan base!

Yep, Harbaugh and Stefanski will both have far better options than us.
This might be in contrast to most, but I don't think some of these other HC situations are significantly better than AZ. The biggest issues IMO are obviously QB, and then after that, the NFC West division.

You are not mentioning the elephant in the room. It all starts at the top. Ownership trumps all the tactical details you note. Harbaugh would never work for Bidwill anymore than Payton would have taken job.

Agree, he's too cheap but doesn't need to be. He's a billionaire and can spend all he needs to. It's just that he doesn't want to.
Mike is the one in control of the team, but he still has siblings to appease, as well. If I recall, he had to fight off a small family coup attempt at one point. I'm sure a lot of the financial decisions have to be made with the rest of the family freeloaders in mind.

Hope you are right but I can't imagine how. Browns have been a dumpster but their owner is willing to spend money.
All the other teams are better options IMO.

Boy I can see this happening.

We fire(or reassign) Petzing. We hire Stefanski as our OC. Monti and Bidwill believe Stefanski can get Murray serviceable. We draft a qb in the second round that can sit and learn.
If it works great. If things go south early, Gannon is fired and Stefanski steps into the HC position.
Stefanski may not even be available for the OC position. Most of this hears HC interview candidates seem to be on the defensive side of the ball. Stef would be one of the few offensive guys available.

i feel like with offsets this is an over rated aspect
Yeah, the salary difference between the coordinator or coach as appears to an HC are huge. I’m not even sure who on that list has another job currently certainly not one that offsets anywhere near HC salary

I don’t get the Harbaugh thing. Talk about injuries! They were missing 60% of their defense at times. They started out 1-5? Yet they’d be in the playoffs if their kicker makes a fg.
People in Baltimore are spoiled lol. Harbaugh is a damn good coach & I don’t think he’s going anywhere.

i more of the mind that the cost of paying three coaches -- after contract offsets -- isnt all that big a deal.

it may register at some level, but I think it only matters at the very margin. Said differently -- it wasnt going to save Johnathan Gannon (obvs)

I think with Kilff and JG after offsets, its going to be maybe $4 to $5mm a year with a known end date. Its just not a lot of money for an NFL team.

Pete's gone

Pete Carroll just fired

The #Raiders have fired coach Pete Carroll, officially one and done. Tom Brady, in the building today, and GM John Spytek will run the search for the new head coach.

Not so much for Kliff.

Cardinals Owed Amount: The Cardinals owe Kingsbury severance pay until 2027 as part of a five-year, $7.5 million annually guaranteed extension he signed in 2022.

Commanders Salary: Kingsbury signed a three-year deal with the Commanders worth a reported $18 million total, or an average of $6 million annually.

Offset Calculation: The Cardinals only pay the difference between the $7.5 million annual amount they owe him and his new salary. If he makes $6 million with the Commanders in a given year, Arizona is only responsible for the remaining $1.5 million for that year.
