So I was listening to a little of the Bickley and Jurecki show this morning on my way to work.

They have special guest Terrell Davis on the show.

B&J: Terrell, boy, the fans in Denver are really fed up with Jake Plummer Huh?

TD: The fans in Denver won't accept anything but winning, people these days want instant gratification, they don't have the patience to wait 4 or 5 years for a team to gel. I don't think Jake is at fault, the whole team needs to play better, but the QB always takes the heat.

B&J: Terrell, how about Shanahan, they want his head too.

TD: blah blah.

B&J: So, Terrell, you a great running back, or a product of the system?

TD: I get that back handed compliment all the time.

B&J: Terrell, so would you rather have a bye week, or play right away in the playoffs, and do you think teams that have clinched the playoffs should rest players?

TD: blah, stupid question, blah.

B&J: Ok, last one from me, do you think the Eagles can win the Super Bowl without TO?

TD: You guys are in Phoenix Right? You've got a quarterback out there in Josh McCown, that is up for rookie of the week after a great game last week, you can vote for him at NFL.com, and the team is in the heat of the playoff chase, but you don't ask any questions about your team?

B&J: Ah ...Thanks for comin on the show TD. After the break, we're talking basketball.

I've always admired Terrell Davis.

Now that is funny.

Way to go TD....

Since when are 3rd year players eligible for "rookie of the week" awards?

Why would they ask a former Bronco with zero connection to the Cardinals questions about the Cardinals?

If they had Shanahan as a guest would they be expected to ask him questions about Green?

eh, either way it was a class move IMO by TD, and after the "backhanded" compliment, he knew exactly what he was dealing with... a couple of hacks.

Josh is up for Fed Ex Air & Ground award - for QB. And in most other cities, the local team would draw a question or two, because they assume that's where interest lies.

Might have been interesting to get his take on Emmitt, and the possibility of his playing next year.

Davis covers the NFL for one of the major networks correct? Or does he only answer questions about Denver? Does Marino only talk about the Dolphins for HBO and CBS? Does Collinsworth only talk about the Bengals?

Even if Davis did only talk about the Broncos why did the great Cardinals "insiders" have him on their show? Isn't this the Cardinals market? Stupid.

Why do reporters ask questions of Ron Jaworski that don't pertain to the Eagles? Why do they ask Shannon Sharpe questions about stuff besides the Broncos? How about Steve Young, should he only be asked questions about the 49ers? ETC, ETC.

I'm glad someone shoved it in their face. You haven't had to put up with these guys on a daily basis for years Russ.

I understand the backhand compliment part I think Davis handled it well.

I completely disagree about the in other cities part. I live in other cities, and I see non Raiders and 49ers interviewed all the time on tv or radio and they very rarely ask them questions about the local teams.

If I were Davis I would expect them to be asking questions about ME, and possibly about the situation in Denver since guys like Jackson, Sharpe and now Schlereth have been all over Tv recently knocking Shanahan and Jake.

My first take was Davis didn't want to answer the question about Shanahan so he changed the subject. I don't listen to Bickley and Jurecki so I don't know their MO, but that's a pretty standard interview IMHO.

The product of a system thing isn't going away soon because when Davis comes up for HOF voting that will be THE biggest question, how many other Bronco RB's put up 1500+ yards maybe this guy wasn't all that?

it was funny I listened to them for the first time together yesterday. It was apparent that not much has changed with ole MJ. Bickley just seemed to repeat the same crap that MJ was saying. Unfortunately their show is better constructed than Bill Lewis with Evan the monotone guy on 1060.

It really sucks on the radio these days. In a way I am glad that I dont get to listen on a regular anymore. It confirmed that I havent been missing much. :bang:

Davis retired officially THIS year, he's been a Bronco his whole career, I think it's pretty likely they had him on specifically to ask him about the Broncos.

Most of the stuff I see on Sharpe IS about the Broncos, but I think that's because he knows that gets the most airplay and that's what he wants.

jaworski has been retired for 15 years, and been covering the NFL for most of that time in some capacity, he's not Ron Jaworski ex Eagle, he's pretty well known as a national guy now, Davis isn't.

See my other post, I don't hear them but I hear the same stuff here with respect to the 49ers and Raiders, that's what reporters who cover teams do when they have an outside person on. If they had Ricky Williams on do you think they'd be asking him about his retirement, or about the Cards?

I just think it's funny how anything Jurecki or Bickley says is blasted unless it agrees with the consensus. They ticked off Davis, he responded, good for him but if he seriously expected them to be asking him about the Cardinals he's showing his inexperience as a "broadcaster."

Because they knew talking about Jake would interest the "Cardinals market?"

Just a guess.

What exactly were they supposed to ask Davis about the Cards?

So what do you think of Dennis Green, "don't know never played for him."

What do you think of the team "don't know haven't seen them play except when their backups beat Denver's backups in the preseason."

He works for NFL network and from what I've read covers the AFC(correct if that's wrong) so again why would we expect him to know much about us when Fox announcers who cover us weekly don't?

You would have thought they would have asked something like

so what is the national perspective on how DG is doing in his first year?

Do you believe that Bert Berry will garner enough pro bowl votes?

Do you think the cards will make the playoffs?

stuff like that.

yes, but clif, those are basic "non-hack" questions that any normal person would ask. People tune into 'Bick and The Stick' specifically to hear two hacks. It's like that crappy CNN show, Crossfire. Why would they want to dissapoint their audience?

The Ricky Williams comparison is a really bad one. Considering he's been out of the league months as opposed to years (no matter when Davis officially retired, he hasn't even practiced in three years.) He's in the mountains pursuing life as a hippie and Davis has a job as a commentator on the NFL.

And, yes, they should've asked him at least one question about the Cards and the NFC West. But really, that isn't that big of a deal to me. They were trying to get the pot stirred, as usual, and it backfired on them.

The reason why it's a little sweet right now is Jurecki's report on Big and his knee a couple of weeks ago claiming that he would need surgery because the Cards coaches wouldn't let him reduce his snaps in practice. Then, in the postgame this week, Davis directly contradicts that by saying he might have to do as he's "done before" and sit out of practice some to get through the last two games. I'm sure we'll all be waiting for a long time for Jurecki to correct that report. As in it's never going to happen.

I don't think

his pointing to what's happening here isn't anything but a backdoor knock on their lack of knowledge or inability to face up to the assinine remarks they make all year about the Cards. I think his point is a good one, if the local teams players are up for an award would'nt you ask an old pro about it?
I don't think I've ever seen TD on TV. but I think the questions about the Broncos were fair, and he responded by not giving them anything to light a fire. And he called them out for not being up on their local team, because that SHOULD be a major topic of discussion on local radio.

I wish more of these guys would give it to local yokels. I can't stand to listen to the so called insider. The only thing he gets inside of is listeners skins. I have no respect for 90% of the so called sports radio hosts. They all have one thing in common lack of actual knowledge or closeness to local sports teams.

NFL Total Access is the one hour highlight show on the NFL Network that I watch instead of Sportscenter.

Rich Eisen is the host, Terrell Davis, Lincoln Kennedy, and Rod Woodson are co-hosts. They interview players, coaches, and owners during the NFL season. Like Gil Brandt, they are EMPLOYED by the NFL, not a team, they are paid by the NFL to provide commentary on the league.

These radio people in the Valley all sing the same song. After week 9, the Cardinals had NO CHANCE to make the playoffs, (because when Denny benched Josh, they SAID that would happen) Denny "lost the team" two weeks later. Talk hosts proclaimed "we're not talking about the playoffs till the Cardinals get to .500, (bickley REALIZED yesterday that they could actually MAKE the playoffs at 7-9) DOH!

Radio talk hosts constantly call season ticket holders "stupid." Just this morning they were mocking the playoff ticket letter season ticket holders got in the mail last week, and when they asked all the people that actually BOUGHT these tickets to call in, when no one did in 30 seconds, they played the "crickets chirping" tape.

I get sick of it like everyone else here, and I had to share the slap down by TD.

Now if we could just make the playoffs, we'd get our revenge. (they won't take those calls)

It is kinda funny, that if we did make the playoffs, we'd have to win the NFC championship game and go to the super bowl just to have a winning record! Winning 2 playoff games would only make us 9-9!

I guess I'm out of it then because I can't recall the last time I heard someone in the bay area from outside of the Raiders or 49ers asked similar questions.

As I mentioned yesterday Walsh is consulting with San JOse State, they just hired a new AD with Walsh's help. Walsh was on tv last night and the 2nd question they asked him was "what do you think about the 49ers coaching and cap situation?" That's just how it is, they didn't ask him anything about San jose State beyond the guys resume, didn't ask him what he thought about the BCS, or Cal being snubbed, they asked him about the 49ers because that's who he's identified with.

If I were listening to TD being interviewed here and they asked him about the 49ers or Raiders I'd be surprised.

Must just be me and the Bay Area sports guys, they don't do that.

I caught that yesterday, frankly I was glad to hear it, if his first report had been true, it would have really bugged me that Green refused to let a guy back off so he could play on Sunday, hell I complained when that was first reported for that precise reason.

Davis has practiced every year since 2001 for a comeback including this year, he had to be dragged into retirement kicking and screaming.

My point was if you asked the average NFL fan who is Terrell Davis they'd say that guy that ran for the Broncos, not the guy on NFL network. Ask who Jaworski is, they'll say that guy on ESPN. Agree, Ricky was an extreme example largely because I felt Jaworski (who's been retired for 15 years) was too.

I guess it's because I don't live in Arizona, I just think you guys are ultra sensitive about the media. I get the same stuff all the time here, and people who live in New york get a LOT more and a lot worse.

The very fact that you guys complain about Bickley and Jurecki is why they are that way, if nobody minded their shtick, they wouldn't get ratings.
