BATTLE CREEK ― The B.O.B. is ready for spring sports.
The Best Of Battle Creek series in the Enquirer is being expanded this year to include the top players on girls soccer teams throughout the area.
Each week, throughout the spring, we are going to ask, "Who is the Best of Battle Creek?" as we look at each position in girls soccer among the city/area high school teams.
Nominations for each position have come from the city/area coaches with a little information on each player. Then it will be up to the Enquirer readers to decide who is the B.O.B.

Each week we will give readers choices and open our online poll for voting, with a winner decided by the following Thursday with polls closing at noon.
Next up are the defensive backs for the city/area girls soccer teams:
School: Battle Creek Central
Class: Junior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: According to her coach, 'Kayla is a wall when it matters most. She reads the game well, anticipating plays before they happen and putting herself in the perfect position to shut them down. She communicates with her back line, stays organized, and doesn’t let pressure shake her.'
School: Pennfield
Class: Freshman
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: According to her coach, "She has started the season as a center back for us and has done a great job. She is a freshmen that has learned the spot quickly and has excelled even in losses. She will be a big leader for us going forward."
School: Gull Lake
Class: Junior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: Annie Isom is one of the best athletes at the school in Gull Lake, playing soccer and running girls track. As a defender, she brings an elite combination of speed, strength and determination.
School: Gull Lake
Class: Junior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: With the ability to stay stride-for-stride with any attacker, due to her athletic ability, Lane Isom is a key to Gull Lake defense. Lane Isom is one of the best athletes at the school in Gull Lake, playing soccer and running girls track.
School: Harper Creek
Class: Sophomore
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: According to her coach, "She has been put in this very crucial spot and has excelled. She runs our back line while having the shut down ability we need on our defensive line."
School: Marshall
Class: Senior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: Playing center back for Marshall, Lillian Moore is a key part of the team defense using her mix of skill and athleticism as well as soccer IQ. An all-district and honorable mention all-area team selection last year, the senior has two game-winning goals this year.
School: Calhoun Christian/St. Philip
Class: Senior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: The anchor of the back line for the St. Philip/Calhoun Christian co-op team, Eli Olds keeps the defense organized for all 80 minutes. Her speed allows her to run down any offensive attack.
School: Lakeview
Class: Senior
Why she is the best defensive back in the city/area: Having anchored the defense for multiple seasons, her communication and positioning make her the reliable "last line" that frustrates opposing forwards. She also has the ability to get up the field and put points on the board. She earned all-area and all-conference honors last year.
