The New Years fireworks came early on Sunday with the New England Patriots lighting up the New York Jets in the AFC East divisional matchup.
Granted, the fireworks were one-sided from the Patriots against a Jets team that only mustered 10 points in the game.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye went 19-of-21 passing for 256 yards and five touchdowns to contribute to a 42-point offensive performance. Maye was so good that he recorded the highest QBR game in the metric's existence, dating all the way back to 2006.
His favorite receiving target was veteran wideout Stefon Diggs, who put together his second consecutive 100-plus yard receiving performance. Overall, he finished the game with six catches for 101 yards and one touchdown. Keep in mind, this was a game where the Patriots were missing Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, Jared Wilson and Will Campbell.
Even with all of the missing pieces, they dominated the Jets so badly that the starters were pulled from the game in the third quarter. That should only add to their confidence heading into the final week of the regular season, with the postseason right around the corner.
Here are the best and worst graded defensive players for the Patriots in Week 17, according to Pro Football Focus.
