Real Madrid’s latest signing Bernardo Silva played the first half in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo on Wednesday evening.

Silva started on as a right winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and his role looked to be ball retention and creativity from the right. He was replaced by Francisco Coneceicao at half-time.

His interchangeability with Joao Cancelo worked well, and he worked hard defensively to win the ball when DR Congo started pushing into Portugal’s half.

He received a harsh yellow card in the first few minutes of the game, which could have contributed to the substitution from manager Roberto Martinez.

Silva did look a bit sluggish in times going forward, and was not able to break down DR Congo’s low block, which also could have been a reason for the change at the break.

To end the game, Silva had 23 touches, 17 completed passes out of 18, including four passes into the final third, in a pretty ineffective performance.

Portugal play Uzbekistan next, on the 23rd of June, before closing out the group with a big game against Colombia on the 27th of June.
