In what seemed like an episode from the WWE, Trey Hendrickson became a heel to Cincinnati Bengals fans after signing a four-year deal worth $112 million with the Baltimore Ravens, only about 12 hours after the Maxx Crosby trade was reversed due to Baltimore failing Crosby on his physical after concerns about his knee.
The Bengals expected to lose Hendrickson this offseason. He had already posted his goodbye to Cincinnati on social media. They may not have expected to lose him to a division rival.
The silver lining in this is that Cincinnati is now expected to get a high compensatory pick as a result of Hendrickson signing a huge contract. Over the Cap is running their projections for 2027 compensatory picks and the Bengals are currently projected to receive a third-round pick next year.
As of this writing, Over the Cap is projecting three teams to receive a third-round compensatory pick. Besides the Bengals, there's the Philadelphia Eagles (Jaelan Phillips) and Los Angeles Chargers (Odafe Oweh).
Cincinnati is also currently projected to receive a 7th-round compensatory pick for guard Cordell Volson, who signed with the Tennessee Titans. The losses of defensive end Joseph Ossai (New York Jets) and tight end Noah Fant (New Orleans Saints) were canceled out on their compensatory-pick board by the additions of edge Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook.
At this point, with almost all of the top free agents off the board, the Bengals can likely pencil in that extra third-round pick in 2027, which is expected to be a very strong draft class, not just at the top, but throughout the draft.
This would give the Bengals nine draft picks, including all of their original picks, plus the extra picks in the third and seventh.
