The Cincinnati Bengals sent a mild shocker across the fanbase in NFL free agency while losing safety Tycen Anderson.

Anderson, by most accounts, felt like a slam dunk to return to the Bengals. His contract didn’t project to be massive and, more importantly, he’s a key part of the special teams unit for coordinator Darrin Simmons.

Alas, Anderson signed with the Denver Broncos in free agency.

It gets just a little stranger, too.

As Over the Cap’s Nick Korte explained, the contract details mean the Bengals won’t even benefit from Anderson’s loss impacting the compensatory draft pick process:

To no surprise, at $1.5M Tycen Anderson will not qualify as a compensatory free agent in favor of Cincinnati or against Denver. https://t.co/Yd5uK09xSi

So, the Bengals lose a key contributor they now need to replace and don’t get a boost to a comp pick situation they have cared dearly for over the years.

It’s not a major ordeal. And it takes two parties to want a deal to happen. But it does create more problems, not solutions, in more ways than one for the Bengals.
