The Chicago Bears are looking to fill their vacant offensive coordinator job following the departure of Declan Doyle, who was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as their offensive coordinator (with play-calling duties). But Chicago has already had one potential candidate turn them down.
According to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, the Bears requested to interview Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters for their offensive coordinator position, but he declined. Walters has garnered looks at offensive coordinator for the last few years, but he's electing to remain with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati.
The good news is that head coach Ben Johnson runs the show on offense, so there won't be any significant turnover. But Johnson also understands the importance of getting the right assistants in place to fill in the gaps when it comes to the offensive game plan and developing quarterback Caleb Williams.
The Bears have also put in a request to interview Arizona Cardinals passing game coordinator Connor Senger for their vacant offensive coordinator job. There are also some in-house candidates that Johnson might consider promoting, including quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Antwaan Randle-El and passing game coordinator Press Taylor.
