The Chicago Bears found surprising success in Ben Johnson's first season as head coach, and some of his assistant coaches have been popular around the rest of the NFL with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle leaving to call plays as the Baltimore Ravens' OC and running backs coach Eric Bieniemy departing to serve as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator.
The Bears have found their new running backs coach in Eric Studesville, who boasts years of experience at the position, and also makes his return to Chicago after getting his start as an offensive quality control assistant back in 1997.
But the Bears also have a big role to fill at offensive coordinator following Doyle's departure. While it's not a super-pressing need, considering Johnson runs the offense, Doyle did do a lot behind-the-scenes which this new OC is going to have to do, as well, as Chicago's top-five offense looks to build on a successful 2025 season.
We're keeping track of all of the latest news, interviews and rumors circulating about the Bears' search for a new offensive coordinator:
The Bears have requested to interview Arizona Cardinals pass game specialist Connor Senger for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Senger called plays in the East-West Shrine Bowl, and he's also drawn interest around the league after interviewing for the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers quarterback coach vacancies last weekend, per Rapoport.
Senger has been with the Arizona Cardinals for the last four years, where he got his start through the Bill Bidwill Fellowship (2022) before working his way up from offensive quality control coach (2023) to assistant quarterbacks coach (2024) to passing game coordinator (2025).
According to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, the Bears requested to interview Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters for their offensive coordinator position, but he declined. Walters has garnered looks at offensive coordinator for the last few years, but he's electing to remain with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Bears passing game coordinator Press Taylor is emerging as a potential candidate for offensive coordinator, noting he's "certainly someone Ben Johnson will consider."
Before joining Johnson's staff, Taylor served as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2022-24). He also worked his way up the ladder with the Philadelphia Eagles getting his start as an offensive quality control coach (2013-15) and receiving promotions to assistant quarterbacks coach (2016-17) to quarterbacks coach (2018-20) and passing game coordinator (2020). Taylor also served as a senior offensive assistant with the Indianapolis Colts for a season (2021).
Press Taylor isn't the only in-house candidate for Bears offensive coordinator. Ben Johnson could also turn to quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Antwaan Randle-El or tight ends coach Jim Dray.
