The Cincinnati Bengals have fully morphed into a modern franchise in front of the world’s eyes.
Rookie edge rusher Cashius Howell’s contract is the latest example.
According to Over The Cap, the Bengals gave Howell a fully guaranteed four-year contract at the expected total worth $12,008,000.
This marks the first time in Bengals franchise history that a second-round pick has received a fully guaranteed deal. Last year, for example, Demetrius Knight only had 79 percent of his contract fully guaranteed.
This year, the first 16 picks in the second round had fully guaranteed deals as the trend continues to sweep the league. After badgering with Shemar Stewart last year after adding new language into rookie deals, the Bengals have decided not to let this new precedent cause problems.
Good thing, too. With the Dexter Lawrence trade, Joe Burrow contract restructure and other little contractual details this offseason, the Bengals have fully left their stubborn shell and operated like most of the other teams in the NFL.
