The Cincinnati Bengals beefed up their defensive line, improved their secondary, and even added depth to their o-line.
But the one important thing left is to give their young linebackers someone they can learn from.
So that’s why ESPN’s Aaron Schatz says the final offseason move the Bengals need to make in late June or early July is to sign former New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke.
“Linebackers Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter were not very good as rookies for the Bengals last season, and it’s a position where the team can definitely still upgrade,” the NFL analyst wrote.
Schatz then explained why Okereke is a better option than another potential veteran linebacker, Bobby Wagner, who is 36 years old. “[Okereke is] much more of a run stopper than a pass coverage guy, but so is Wagner at this point, and Okereke is less likely to be in decline as he turns 30 in late July,” Schatz wrote. “And like Wagner, Okereke is a high-character locker room influence, as he was the Giants’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award last season.”
