Rosters change every year in college sports, and Iowa men’s basketball is no different.
Bennett Stirtz is gone, and so is Alvaro Folgueiras, but Ben McCollum is confident in the new players coming to Iowa City.
“I mean, (Andrew) McKeever is 7’3″ and is legitimately 7’3″. He’s actually a pretty good passer, he’s pretty skilled, more so than anything, and then defensively he played in a great system,” McCollum said. “He was really well coached at St. Mary’s, and so he will be a big part of our offense and defense. Ty’Reek Coleman, I think, was really undervalued. We think he was one year away from being a really good player in the Missouri Valley. He was good last year. Obviously 10 (points) a game is tough to do in the Valley, but we think he’s only scratched the surface. Jaidyn Coon is a freaky athlete, great kid, and I think most importantly, all the kids that we’ve brought in are good kids, and we have kids sitting out, too, or kids who didn’t play as much and that development is a big deal in our program. Every single player we have, ya know, the ones you wouldn’t know, probably Trevin Jirak, has been really good in those practices, or what not, and ya know, but all the guys have been great.”
