Jan. 25—MADISON, Wis. — The Bemidji State women's hockey team took a tangible offensive step against top-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday.
For the first time since Jan. 11, 2020, the Beavers scored three times against the Badgers. It hadn't happened on the road at LaBahn Arena since Oct. 12, 2012.
Bemidji State scored all three of its goals in the first period in a 10-3 loss against UW. It was only the fifth time in 113 games that BSU scored three times in one period against Wisconsin.
Isa Goettl, Hailey Armstrong and Morgan Smith all scored for the Beavers. Each of them recorded one assist in multi-point games.
Unfortunately for Bemidji State, the fun stopped after the opening 20 minutes.
Kirsten Simms and Caroline Harvey had a hat trick and three assists. Lacey Eden, Laila Edwards, McKayla Zilisch and Claire Enright all scored for the Badgers.
BSU (5-17-3, 2-16-1 WCHA) goaltender Kaitlin Gorwss made 45 saves in the loss. Wisconsin's (22-1-2, 16-1-2 WCHA) Ava McNaughton and Chloe Baker combined for 15 saves on Senior Day.
