The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the 2026 NFL Draft, where they'll be looking to shore up some key positions of need, especially on defense. One position that must be addressed is the defensive line, which struggled getting after the quarterback and defending the run in 2025.
Defensive tackle is a position we could see the Bears address early, where Clemson's Peter Woods and Ohio State's Kayden McDonald are among the top prospects on the interior. But could Chicago explore another avenue to land an impactful defensive tackle to make Dennis Allen's defense flourish?
In a new mock draft from Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling, the Bears make a trade for New York Giants star Dexter Lawrence, who recently requested a trade, sending the No. 25 pick to the Giants in exchange for the two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler.
"It looks like Lawrence wants change of scenery, and the Giants could find a willing trade partner in the Bears, who need the interior dominance he brings to the defensive trenches," wrote Easterling.
Lawrence would be a slam-dunk addition for Chicago's defense, adding a dominant run stopper and disruptive interior pass rusher to a group that needs to improve in both areas. Lawrence signed a four-year, $90 million contract extension back in 2023, which puts him under contract for the next two seasons.
Would the Bears, who are looking to build through the draft, give up a premium draft pick to land an impactful defensive lineman? Nothing is ever off the table with general manager Ryan Poles.
