I have a feeling this will go on longer than the Mike leach vs. Texas Tech lawsuit. I suspect that this morass goes way beyond Briles and involves boosters, admin et al.

Maybe the boosters suggesting that Briles termination be converted to a 1 year suspension was a ploy to cover their own asses.

I know the situations are very different in the crimes involved...

but this denial in the face of overwhelming evidence reminds me of Penn St and Paterno.

Four things to know: Baylor regents detail Briles' response to sexual assault scandal
Baylor's board of regents has released a more detailed look into the football program's sexual assault scandal
1. There were 17 women that alleged sexual or domestic assault by 19 football players since 2011. According to the regents, 17 women brought forward sexual assault allegations against football players since 2011, including four allegations of gang rape. Until now, we had not known exactly how widespread the problem was within the Baylor football program, but allegations by 17 women against 19 players shows why the program was deemed to have a severe cultural problem.

"There was a cultural issue there that was putting winning football games above everything else, including our values," said J. Cary Gray, a member of the Baylor board of regents, to the Wall Street Journal. "We did not have a caring community when it came to these women who reported that they were assaulted. And that is not OK."

and the only one thrown under the bus was Briles.

Baylor public safety official admits 'significant failure' over sexual assault claims
ESPN's Outside the Lines revealed in April that Baylor did not investigate the rape allegations against Armstead and Shamychael Chatman for two years in one of a string of revelations that led to Briles' dismissal in May.

The "60 Minutes Sports" segment includes interviews with Patty Crawford, Baylor's first full-time Title IX coordinator who resigned claiming the school was standing in the way of her doing her job, Baylor's interim president and four board of regents members. Additionally, a former Baylor coach tells Keteyian she is of the belief that she was forced to leave the school after reporting a number of sexual assault allegations to the athletic program.

Report: Baylor won't receive 'Penn State-like' sanctions from NCAA
The Wall Street Journal reports the NCAA "won't exert its executive authority to impose sweeping sanctions against the school for broad institutional failings, and will instead follow its normal investigative process."

The program is still subject to an NCAA probe, the crux of which involves answering whether Baylor athletes "received preferential treatment through the school's disciplinary process." That, according to the paper, could be considered an impermissible benefit under NCAA rules.

As a criminal matter first and foremost, Baylor's situation more closely mirrors the Jerry Sandusky case at Penn State rather than violations solely based in academics and/or athletics. Those fall directly in the NCAA's jurisdiction.

Seems that Cal's Sonny Dykes is being pursued by Baylor for the vacant HC gig. Right out of the Hal Mumme/Mike Leach coaching tree. Their 1st choice seemed to be Chad Morris of SMU, but that stalled when Morris' clan turned down a 5 year $24.5 million deal and counter offered (greedy).

Briles sues Baylor officials for libel and conspiracy
The lawsuit also asserts that Baylor officials conspired to keep him from getting another coaching job.

Briles was fired last May after an investigation determined Baylor mishandled reports of alleged sexual and physical assaults, some by football players. Briles denies he knew about and failed to report alleged assaults.

The lawsuit was filed in Llano County in Central Texas. It names Baylor regents Chairman Ronald Murff, board members J. Cary Gray and David Harper, and Baylor Vice President Reagan Ramsower.

Baylor officials deny defaming ex-coach Briles amid scandal
WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor University officials have responded to a defamation lawsuit filed by ex-football coach Art Briles, saying they were truthful in comments criticizing Briles' handling of sexual assault allegations against players.

Three Baylor regents and an administrator said in a court filing last week in Llano County that Briles is a public figure and bears the responsibility of proving any falsehood.

2nd ex-Baylor Title IX official alleges discrimination
WACO, Texas (AP) — Another former Title IX official at Baylor University has filed a complaint with federal civil rights officials accusing university officials of discrimination and intimidation while she tried to investigate sexual assault reports.

The above disclosure indicates, as suspected, that Baylor's dirty problem was systemic to the top. Win at all cost. This criminal enterprise goes so far beyond Art Briles. It likely includes booster pressure, Police and Prosecutor's office collusion, Athletic Dept staff complicity, ad nauseum.

"Take care of the wins Art and don't pay attention to the criminals" . Where was Loretta Lynch and the Justice Department? Too busy slapping FIFA around? Title IX?

Why is no one in jail? Perps, cops, PAs etc. Firing a coach is miniscule.
